So many students change
college majors mid-stream, or have already
graduated, but still
aren't sure what career direction to
take. It's frustrating for everyone--and
expensive. Give your student an edge
with an ability assessment - and make the most
of your tuition dollars.
The Highlands Ability Battery gives the
student a new lens through
which to see themselves. More than
any other test, it will paint a unique and
highly personal view of what's
"inside".
What is your son naturally
drawn to do well - and where will he thrive
and succeed? What kind of work or study
environment suits him best? SATs or GPAs won't
tell him.
Many of us have taken career assessments,
such as Myers-Briggs, True Colors, Strength
Finder or 360 feedback sessions. These
tools depend on self-inserted responses to
leading questions. While they provide some
useful information, they are limited by the
extent to which we might deceive ourselves about
our strengths. According to Peter
Drucker, "Most people think they know what they
are good at. They are usually
wrong".
Does your
daughter really know what she's good
at? Rather than relying on
her own or other's impressions of her strengths,
you can both be assured of receiving objective,
reliable and very accurate information
from the Highlands Ability Battery. Only
the Highlands obtains objective, reliable data
though a series of timed, online work
samples. Over 50 years of research
and hundreds of studies have demonstrated the
essential validity of Highland's work
samples. Collectively the scores are
predictive of the roles, work environments
and career paths that are uniquely suited for
her.
Does she prefer
immediate results from her
efforts? Or can she plan,
and wait? In one test, we measure her
natural tolerance of the time between
action and result. Those who score low in
this work sample are excellent "fire-fighters" -
they thrive in situations where they can turn
things around and see immediate results. Those
who score high do well in jobs that require
long-range strategy or planning - and can wait
months, or even years to see the results of
their efforts.
How does your
son approach
problems?
He'll thrive in a role that pulls on his
natural approach to problem solving. Let's
face it... any job, any career, any
profession is a daily exercise
in solving some kind of
problem. Highlands will tell us if he is an
analytical, or a diagnostic
thinker. Analytical thinkers bring
deductive, step by step logic to problem
solving. They can easily arrange ideas and
information is some logical
order. Diagnostic thinkers, on the other
hand, quickly find relationships to seemingly
unrelated ideas, and come up with solutions
based on little information. It's a faster
paced approach to problem
solving.
Does your
student love to construct and build things,
getting her "hands on" a
project? Or is she a more
of a "systems" thinker - more abstract,
working things out in her head? Whichever
world she prefers - either "concrete" or
"abstract" - she needs to match her academic and
career choice accordingly.
Only an
ability assessment will dig this
deep.
And only Highlands
offers the full assessment
online.
When's the best
time for an ability
assessment?
Your
child's natural abilities mature by the age of
15, and can be tested any time after that.
The sooner the better, when planning for
college.
What's the investment, and
what will you get?
Your child invests
about 3 hours to complete all nineteen online
work samples - she can complete the assessments
a little at a time - no need to do them in one
sitting.
Following completion,
she'll receive a 32-page report and a personal,
2 hour coaching and feedback session with me,
and an audio-recorded copy of the
feedback session on CD.
The cost is
$450 - about the cost of one
online college credit!
